PSA (Public Service Announcement) Reflection and PPP

Hello all, this time we were talking about PSA's, Public Service Announcements. These are commercials that show awareness of an issue to the public. Here is the reflection I did and the question I answered. Below you will see the pictures from the power point I made!

How can PSA's make a difference?
First of all, what are PSA's?Public Service Announcement's are ad's who are made to aware people of an issue. it usually asks people to help voluntarily, and they are informational on the issue. So, now, the next question, how do PSA's make a difference? Since they are usually very short, they have to get the point out very quickly. This makes the audience notice the problem quickly without getting bored, and people suddenly think about how it is(whatever the issue) is affecting themselves, people around them, and our world. Another reason why PSA's are affective is that they are only there to tell you about a problem, not to sell some stupid product and interrupt your show. Therefor people actually listen instead of changing channel because of the same boring products.

CHAPTER 1
FRANCI AND I
“You’re not afraid, are you?” I whispered to the doubting Franci.
She was 15, her hair blond-brunette, beautiful mix, with her slightly dark skin to make her perfectly attractive. I, myself, am 16, with very dark brown hair, and quite light skin. You could say that we were opposites, but only in looks, because inside, we were like twins. We both loved romantic-action movies, had a plan to go to the same excellent college (to study the same thing, which was, for now, undecided), and we both enjoyed crossing over the rules and breaking them; we were risk-takers. Franci and I lived in this boarding school since we were practically babies. We both knew we had been left as orphans, but we didn’t really mind, it was just another addition to our adventurous lives!
Now, our goal in life was to get to a normal or fun boarding school, for Franci, and for me, a good but cheap college. We were not quite at this stage yet, but we were getting there. For tonight, Franci and I had a different kind of adventure in our minds; we had a plan, and a pretty dangerous one. We were in the grand hall of our boarding school, somewhere we were not allowed to be at this time at night. Yet, it was much too tempting knowing that the doors tonight and tonight only would be open because of the heat. The boarding school rarely bought anything, especially not air conditioners for the summer and heaters for the winter. In the summer we would staple our homework together to make fans, while in the winter; we would make a secret fire in the concrete building using only our homework and a lighter. We were never allowed to go outside, not any of the students in our school, and no students were allowed to leave the school, even for vacation, the cause being that the director didn’t want the ‘outsiders’, as he called the people who lived outside of our school, to know anything about our horrendous school. Children were only allowed to join our school if the parents were leaving them there forever, like orphans. No parents knew what was going on at our school, and the principal had no intention of telling them, the main secret being we didn’t learn about math and science like in normal educational schools, we learned how to be outlaws, but only for stealing.
But tonight, I decided we would risk getting caught, just to get a look at the outside world. I knew Franci wanted to as well, because she was piqued by this idea when I first mentioned it a few days ago.
She shook her head, “Of course not, you know I’m braver than you. I’m just thinking about what will happen if we get caught…” I was thinking about that too.
I knew this would be a great opportunity, but the consequences were just too horrible…”Stop thinking about that”, I told myself, knowing that if I kept on thinking I would turn back immediately.
I signaled to Franci that I was leaving, and she followed me to the door. We have seen this door before, but tonight it was different, almost like if the door was waiting to give an alarm as soon as we walked out. I was a bit frightened, knowing we would probably get lost or caught, but I had to…I opened the door slowly, and as soon as I did, an eerie dark blue light entered the hall. I forgot to mention, the school is windowless, so no sunlight or moonlight for us. We walked out quickly before our heads took over and went back in. Franci looked up at some lights in the sky, probably stars as the new kid last year, coming from a normal school, had explained to us. I realized that I was staring at the beautiful sky, too. We could have gone back in right then, but something flowing in the distance caught my attention. I grabbed Franci’s hand and we were off into the dark.
As I came closer to the flow, I found out that I was looking at a vast amount of water that never seemed to end. I think this is called the ocean. No teacher ever told us how beautiful it was, flowing with the current. There were no proper exact words you could use to describe the beauty of this ocean. It was dark blue but it seemed to glow, and it flowed very calmly with the wind blowing. I sighed, thinking about what had happened to one of my friends a few years ago. Franci began to pull me, she had seen another attraction.
This was the ultimate discovery; a beautiful, huge, spherical submarine that seemed completely deserted. We started clambering on without thinking twice. It was quite hard, as you must know, because things that are completely round seem to make us slip. It took a while for us to get to the window, but at last we entered it, rather loudly. Franci stepped in first, and I went in after her. My foot must have touched something because as soon as I was in, the large sub started to submerge rather quickly! We looked out of the window as we saw the moonlight disappear and the dark ocean take over, making it very dark inside this cabin. I touched around for a light switch and finally found one. We were inside the command room, with all the buttons and tools to make the ship work. I wasn’t afraid; this was exactly the adventure I was waiting for! I planned on being the captain, to sail the seas with Franci until we were known for our adventure, but suddenly, some loud noise interrupted my thoughts. I turned quickly, realizing someone had been in this room with us, and had detached me from Franci. I walked around the room cautiously, knowing Franci had probably been kidnapped. I closed my eyes, now absolutely terrified, wishing we had never entered this sub, but then there was a quick noise, and I felt the pain in my head swelling, and then, I blacked out…
CHAPTER 2
THE SUBMARINE
It seemed liked I had woken up from my strange dream just five minutes after I had fallen, but from the bright light that came from the window, I knew it was morning and whoever had put us here had brought the sub back up to the surface of the ocean. I started observing where I could be. I was in a bedroom, it seemed, and Franci was walking around feeling as confused as I was. She soon realized I had woken up, and came down to hug me and tell me what was going on. “There are two men, not very dangerous, that are in this ship with us. They said that the only reason they did kidnap us is that they thought we were there enemies. Brin and Chet, those are there names, insisted they can’t let us go until we are far away from Dublin. We might possibly arrive to West Cork. Mean while, they said that they’ll take good care of us and won’t harm us unless we try to escape.” I was very confused, but Franci told me she was not secure of what was happening either. The thing we both were sure about was that we were on an adventure!
We were both excited and scared, not knowing what was going to happen, but we were trained all our lives to know what to do in these situations, usually though, it was the police that we were supposed to be escaping from. Yes, Franci and I already had planned that we were going to escape, but we didn’t know how yet. We decided we were going to explore the submarine until we knew it as well as we know the inside of our pockets.
First, I wanted to meet our kidnappers, to know if they were as nice as Franci claimed they were, or if she was just afraid that they were watching her conversation with me. So I asked Franci to lead me to them, and she did. Now, my eye sight might not be the best, but these two didn’t look as if they would harm a fly. The oldest, a man probably in his late 50’s, wore a pair of farmer trousers, with the two belts around his shoulders covering part of the dirty but nice checkered t-shirt. The other one, very young, a bit older than me, was wearing a typical teenage boy outfit, with a ‘Rock ‘N Roll’ t-shirt and baggy, ripped jeans. I stared into his eyes, which were as green as the grass in the summertime, getting lost in them while he stared into mine.
Brin, the older guy, talked first. “Well, howdy, little lady! How ya doin’? Watch ‘ya name?” he asked kindly, and to me surprisingly. I answered each question politely with a truthful answer, still staring at Chet and his bright green eyes. He told me I was free to go wherever I wanted on the ship because we were not real captives, but we were going to be supervised by Chet the whole time. We were going to stop on a few islands to explore on the way, he added at the end.
So, our new lives started approximately now, even though we didn’t know it. Chet became our friend and Brin was like a father to us. We explored the ship each day, although after a while we forgot our idea of escaping, because we felt mare at home with these people more than we had with anyone else.
We started exploring the submarine the day after, Franci, Chet (our supervisor, although he became more of a friend and trouble maker with us), and I. It was very hard, because the submarine was huge, and had so many small rooms, along with many big ones. We decided to start from the bottom left, since there were two floors, we were going to work our way up. The room we started with was the engine room, clean as glass, and with so many fascinating buttons and machinery we weren’t allowed to touch. Next came a bunch of storage rooms, these ones full of more junk than Franci and I have ever seen in our life, since our school was ‘saving their money for something else’. In these rooms, we found some clothes that fit us and tried them on, showing off each of our discoveries to each other.
Most of the other rooms were empty, or were bedrooms that had never been used. There was one room that I found amazing, and that was the kitchen. There were so many colors for the food, unlike the food - if you can call it that - at our boarding school which was usually grey, or in other cases, burnt and black. I tasted everything in this room, even the flower and salt, which were supposed to be added to something to make another thing, Chet explained to me. I decided right then, when I entered that room, that I was going to go to college to learn how to be a good cook, and then open a worldwide series of restaurants that would become very famous everywhere. And most of the money would go to charity, and to shutting down our boarding school. The door closing behind me woke me up quickly, and I started walking out with my friends, still day dreaming. By the way, it’s not my fault I have big dreams!
Franci’s favorite room was the living room, a wide room with about ten sofas and arm chairs sitting around something that seemed to me like a thin metal box. Chet explained what it was, in complete astonishment we didn’t know, “It is a television, a magical box with moving pictures,” he told us, talking to us like if we were 4-year-olds. He turned it on to demonstrate how it worked, and as soon as he pressed the magical red button on a plastic thing, people appeared inside the box. It was a story that you could see, moving, and Franci and I found it absolutely amazing. We sat there for hours, watching different things and changing the story by pressing the up or down button. Finally, Chet was fed up with watching television and turned it off; telling us it needed some rest. We weren’t so sure he was telling the truth, but we followed him anyway because our eyes were sore after all that staring.

CHAPTER 3
CHET’S WORLD
I looked into Chet’s eyes one more time before he sent us off to bed that night. I couldn’t sleep; I was thinking about Chet’s eyes, Chet’s hair, Chet’s everything. He was handsome and very polite, but was also a whole load of fun. I was falling in love with him and there was no way I could deny it or stop it from happening. Besides, he looked in love with me too, because if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have stared at me the whole time I was watching television. I knew he was because I was trying to get a glance at him too, and I found that if you looked at the glass on the television and not the moving pictures, it became like a mirror. Each time I got a look at him, he was staring right in my direction without knowing that I knew what he was doing. I was so confused, so afraid, yet so happy that I could be loved! If only I had the courage to go up to him and tell him how I felt about us. I decided that I was going to tell him tomorrow, since it was Saturday and he wouldn’t be going to town.
Come on Clare, you can do it, all you need is a little bit of perseverance and then your good to go. It was Saturday and it was the day I promised myself I would tell him what I felt inside. Franci was steering the ship with the help of Brin, so we were completely alone in this room. He was sitting by the radio, singing along to an old country song. I approached him slowly, trying to make a discussion of what I was going to say in my head. As soon as I was just half a meter away from him, he grabbed my hand, pulled me close to him and kissed me! Then he ran off into his room, a bit dizzy from what had just happened. I myself was rather dazed from the event. I went to the cabin where Franci was, and told her to come into our room and that I had to tell her what just happened.
It was a month after the kiss, and Chet and I were officially together, after a lot of help from Franci to get us to talk to each other. I felt better than I had felt in a long time.

CHAPTER 4
THE ADVENTUROUS ISLAND
It was a hot afternoon, so hot that I was about to jump off the sub into the cold ocean, only to know that Chet would jump in to save me, telling me I was crazy. Brin, who was always trying to cheer us up, offered that he stop at the next exotic island to explore…Well, I didn’t mind getting out of this stuffed room for a while, so I accepted a little less enthusiastically than Franci, who was still very young and still very, very energetic, to energetic for this small submarine. So, for the next hour, we sat on the edge of the boat, which was on the surface, looking out for the land that Brin had explained to us; a beautiful uninhabited paradise, one where you couldn’t take your eyes off from far away. To tell the honest truth, I was beginning to think that Brin was fooling us with this story of paradise. After what seemed like four hours, we saw what Brin was talking about, and as soon as we saw it, we knew it was it.
It looked like if it had been growing for more than a thousand years, totally deserted as Brin had mentioned, and totally a type of paradise. It was smaller than a normal island but filled with more lush than any other island I had heard about in our horrid school. As soon as the sub was close enough to the island to jump off, I grabbed Chet’s hand and we were running off into the rain forest like two kindergarteners running to the playground after class! We climbed trees, ate berries – only the one’s that Chet approved of – and swam with all our clothes until we were shivering from head to toe! I was enjoying myself so much that I didn’t notice Brin had changed mood – from bubbling excitement to nervous, tired face – until he grumbled so loud that we had to notice.
“What’s wrong Brin, is something wrong?” I asked in the most soft and polite voice I could so he wouldn’t shout at me.
It’s not that he didn’t like me, he loved me, but it was just that when he was in a bad mood he was able to wake up the whole neighborhood with his shouting.
He answered so steadily that he surprised me out of my seat, “I told you that this place is inhabited, hasn’t yet been discovered for thousands of years, but there are always some people who are originally from these places. Most of the people left the island tens of years ago, going into modern civilization. But some remained here, and still roam the island with the few people in the group.”
He sighed as though he had finished, so I took the chance and tried to ask one of the million questions that were racing through my mind at this moment. ”I love the story, but I don’t see what it has to do with us being on this island.”
He rose himself so quickly and smoothly, that I was rethinking the age I had given him when Chet, Franci and I were trying to guess his still undiscovered secret age.
“They are dangerous, Clare, more than you will ever understand. They are still savage, and their minds think like 100’s of years ago! They think that everyone is their enemy, and they kill everyone. I wanted to runaway as soon as I found out, but the sub is out of gas, we have to find some oi……”
Suddenly there was a rustle in the bushes, and a dark tanned, angry head came out! Chet grabbed me up, while Brin helped Franci, and we were up and running again. I was so scared I could barely hear the screams that Franci gave out, or the shouts of anger the tribe let out, or even Chet trying to sooth me with his calm but quick voice. I felt like throwing up, but I stopped myself just in time. Suddenly, I tripped over something – probably my own feet, and ended up on the ground. Chet was already ahead with the others, and he didn’t notice. My stomach finally gave in, and everything I had eaten for lunch suddenly came out. I felt pain somewhere, maybe my left foot, but I was so tired and sick I couldn’t see or notice anything. The last time I was conscious I realized I was being dragged away.

CHAPTER 5
ESCAPEI THINK
“Huga! Huga! Huga!” was the disturbing noise that woke me up.
It took me a few minutes for me to get used to what was happening around me. I had just opened my eyes when one of those people came up to me and asked me something in a foreign language. I looked at him puzzled, and answered in English telling them that I didn’t understand. Somehow, they recognized which language I was speaking and went to call someone. Meanwhile, I was wondering why I felt so stiff and tall when I realized that I was tied to a pole about one meter above the ground. The rope was so tight that I was struggling to breath, so I called the guy who had talked to me before, showing him I was out of breath, so he went behind me and untied the ropes.
Suddenly the whole place, which seemed to be a very noisy market place, quieted down and the crowd separated into two groups…just enough space for a large hipped middle aged man to come through. He had a peculiar stick in his hand. It was covered from the top to the bottom in leaves that were rubbed into some reddish material. Now that he came closer, I saw the stick and the leaves better; the red material was dried blood. This was the person I was supposed to speak to; the only one, it seemed, who knew English! I just remembered that I was in a market, on an island, and perhaps the only civilized person here! I started to panic again, to become sick in the stomach, but tried harder than ever before to keep it in and listen to this man.
This man started to talk quickly and fluently in English, “Pretty, strong, in love, about 17. Am I right young one?” he asked in the most awkward tone.
“You are right about everything except the fact that I am 16.” I replied quickly.
“Why am I telling this guy about my own life?” I thought to myself.
“Are you here to spy on us people or to steal us children and us food and homes?” he asked angrily this time.
I was scared this time because they were all looking at me with their dark eyes full of hatred.
I answered quickly when I saw one of them pick up his spear, “I am just a girl who came here with my” I hesitated, “family. I was on vacation when you suddenly popped out and took me, my family ran off and now I am scared, hungry, and lonely…” I was talking so silently yet my words seemed to come out at them quicker than I was talking.
The old man ordered some strong men to take me off the pole, but to untie the strings they had to pull again so I fainted quickly since I had no breath.
I woke up startled as I had just five hours ago, but this time the people around me were kind and there were only women, plus, I wasn’t tied to a pole about to black out! I was in a comfortable bed in fact, and I was wearing my clothes, just much cleaner and not so smelly. I felt alive and refreshed, so I quickly stood up and tried to speak with one of the women.
“Thank you for all of this, what is your name?”
She replied softly, and it looked like she was trying for the men not to notice, “My name is Elli, and I am going to be your host. But you must know one thing, women are supposed to be stupid in this village and none of the women are supposed to speak English, but with all the people that end up here unfortunately, we learned English right before they were slaughtered. So please don’t speak to us while men are around.”
All this time my anger grew and grew. First of all, how could men think that they could treat women like that, and secondly, women should take charge, right? Before I try to escape from this island, I promised myself, I will help the women get their equal rights. For now I would just act like nothing happened until I found a way to help the intelligent women of this place!
“What should we do what should we do?” Franci was walking back and forth, while Brin, who was trying to make this a joke, said quickly, “Well, at least we don’t need to buy four servings of food anymore, right guys?”
Franci and I screamed at him, “How could you say that, you know that Clare is really important to us, and you too, so stop!?”
I was very angry, angry at myself that I let Clare, my girlfriend, slip away from me. I would do anything to save her, and here I was screaming at Brin just because he was trying to calm us down and tell us that it is going to be ok. I, Chet, will save my Clare as soon as possible, I told myself, whether I have to sneak away or not! Franci might want to help but Brin definitely will not want us going by ourselves, even if it was to save Clare. I was counting the minutes and hours we had left her, and for now she had been gone for 5 hours 37 minutes. Anything could have happened to her in such a long time, and I was so worried I was going to faint any second.

CHAPTER 6
HERE OR THERE?
I waited until all the men had gone to their daily hunting and all the children were having their siesta to go to speak to the woman who spoke English to me first. I was here already three days, and everyone had got to know me well enough to treat me like an old friend, except for the fact that only one man could speak English and all the women were not brave enough to show that they were intelligent. Elli was sitting on the floor sewing up her basket made of straw with her bare hands. She looked at me and tried to hide her sad face with a happy laughter.
“Honey Clara, have you eaten yet?” she asked in her melodic, beautiful, sweet, yet suspicious voice.
“No, but you must come eat with me, I love your presence.” I said knowing that if she ate with me we would have enough time to talk about what was wrong…and then maybe about what I was still doing on this island and what the men were planning to do with me.
She walked back with me and we talked about random stuff like her children and the weather. We sat down in my little bar next to the door so we could see if any men came in. This was my bar because since these people were a bit back in technology, I told them that people can work in their home making foods and then trading it with things they need. I didn’t want to introduce money to them because it had done badly enough to our world. The trading had gone pretty well and we all enjoyed the meals that the women made. This was women owned so we could talk as much as we wanted in English.
“So honey Clara, what would you like to eat? Some sweet thing for the morning to get you active and working again? How about the sweet coconut?”
She was trying to look very happy and joyful, like nothing was wrong, but she knew I was just waiting for the right moment to ask her…
“Ok,” she burst out crying, “I know that we are not supposed to tell you, I was just eavesdropping, and th-th-then I heard those hor-r-r-rid men talking about you, so I listened some more and they-y-y said they were planning to get rid of you-ou-ou as soon as possibleee!”
I, personally, was not very surprised. From the first moment I met all the men they all had sour faces although they seemed like they liked me. I comforted Elli because she seemed the most disturbed, and then all the women came and they made a revolution in the smallest amount of time I ever saw. They were not arguing because they were all very communicative. I stopped them for a second and stepped up on the table so that they could all here and see me.
“Ladies, ladies! Please, if we want to fight against the men we have to make sure what we’re fighting for is correct. If it’s not, you all have the right to be punished for creating a false argument. How about you all, very secretly, try to find out if Elli is correct, and come to me as soon as you have found out. If you must, even ask them if they are planning to do anything, but make sure you look surprised if they say yes!” I finished with firmness, only because I was so important to them.
Suddenly it hit me, the men weren’t planning to get me, they were planning to get rid of someone else that they saw surrounding there island, and that someone else was Brin and the other s trying to see if I was ok. They were going to get murdered, and brutally if they even tried to attack the island. As much as the people were kind and helpful, they were also very protective of the little they had.
“Stop, sto…” I couldn’t finish my sentence when I saw the men coming and so I shut my mouth not to get the poor women who smiled on the outside and cried on the inside by punished for being more…intelligent.
I would have to speak with each and every one of the women individually, and even though there weren’t that many of them, it was extremely hard to get them away from the boys, away before they could do anything that I or they would regret.
Elli was the first person I had to tell, since she was the person that cared about me the most. I went to her in the night while she was in the kitchen cooking for the greedy men.
I whispered to her, “Elli, don’t do any eavesdropping on the men or ask them anything like I told you too! What they were talking about that day you over heard them was my friends who were going around and around the island to see if they could find me.” I took a deep breath, “And they will be killed if they try to attack or even show themselves, since the men are so tense with me already here, so please, please, tell me if you see them so I can go with them.”
She seemed surprised, and then she looked like if she was trying to hold in tears. I had never thought how hard it would be to say good bye to her, to her beautiful eyes, good heart, and soft voice that always comforted you when you were sad or troubled. I didn’t want to leave her, but as much as I wanted to stay with her I also wanted to go back to Chet, to Franci, to Brin, to my…family.
“We must be strong, Elli, or we will never be able to continue an easy life.” I almost choked out from the tears.
“I don’t want to be strong, Clara dear, want to be with you forever, you are the only thing I care for!” She answered stronger than I expected.
“Are you sure you want to come? You have been here for the last fifty years and you belong here, this is your home. Do you really want to throw all of this paradise away, just for me?” I questioned, even though I wanted her to come more than ever, this was her decision.
“Of course, Clara, you are my whole world now. No one ever loved me, I never loved anyone, and I’ve never had any children to care for. I love you!” she exclaimed.
“And I love you. You are like the grandmother I never had. We were meant to meet. It was…destiny!” I said quickly when I saw two men coming towards us looking hungry.
It was something else that caught my eye though. Behind the men, in the distance, I could see a little yellow dot in the shape of a submarine. I could also see small people on the sub too and there were three. I knew this was the time for action!

CHAPTER 7
NEVER ENDING DRAMA
“Quickly Elli, I fear that the men are starting to follow the unusual scent of my old clothes. We are going to the very edge of the island, so my friends can see me and see that I am safe.” I shouted to Elli who was trying her hardest to go faster with her thin little legs, but was falling way behind me.
“I’m trying honey Clara, but I’ve never worked so hard in my life.” She answered with heavy breathing.
“We’re almost there,” I said just as we walked out of the rainforest into the heating sunlight.
In an instant I saw the submarine, patrolling the island 24-7. I signaled to them and was relieved that I wouldn’t have to wait a long time and perhaps have to hide from the suspicious men. Elli would be hard to hide and make her move quickly with her sore back was out of the question. She suddenly came out of the bushes panting, but seemed relieved to see the light of day again.
“Are you sure they will like me?” Elli asked for about the 10th time today.
She was so unsure of herself, unsure that anyone who had never seen here native people before would freak out at just a glance of her. Of course, though, she definitely wanted to come if it meant being with me for the rest of her years.
“Sure they will, you’re beautiful and you don’t look older than 30! There is even a man on board who is my,” I cleared my throat, “father and would love to meet you!”
“You never told me about him…” she said excitedly while looking towards the submarine which was advancing towards us quite quickly.
Finally we would be back home, I thought, and everyone would be where they are supposed to be! I hugged Elli when she least expected it, so we both fell over into the sand and laughed a little too loud! I looked towards the sub again to see how close it was, and was surprised to see we could hear the motor roaring!
Suddenly we heard footsteps coming towards us. Oh no, I thought, the men already found out that we were missing from the village and had come to find out where we were and what we were up too! I quickly grabbed Elli and hid her in a bush with me. A few seconds later I saw the submarine going under, obviously after they had figured out we were hiding from someone and they should really not be seen. Elli panted, and I tried to calm her down so she was not heard. Out of the bushes came one man, carrying a fishing pole (something I had also told them about, but only made of sticks, a piece of string and a teeny spear at the bottom) and some worms as bate. I really didn’t want to hurt him since he did not seem like he wanted to hurt us, but I had to. I took a heavy piece of wood, quietly stepped behind him and then bashed him on the head.
He fell right to the floor with a thud, and there seemed no major injuries other than the big bump. By now the submarine along with my friends had come back up to see if we were ok. The motor roared to life and I picked Elli up from the bushes, as she seemed to have trouble getting up in such a small space. I ran towards my friends since they could not come any closer to shore and grabbed Elli and we were running in the water like little children! We climbed on board, I gave Chet a huge kiss, and Brin helped Elli and gave her one of his special smiles. She smiled back with the most beautiful smile she seemed younger than ever.
Franci looked so happy to see me that it looked as if she didn’t mind being the only one without someone to love! We hugged and talked and everyone seemed happier than they ever were before!

CHAPTER 8
THE END
Finally, here comes the end.
Chet and I were sitting by the fireplace, enjoying marshmallows as well as holding each other’s hands! Little Peter, our son, was walking around screaming and opening presents. Next to us there were seated Brin and Elli, now in their late 60’s, and they were watching Peter so with so much entertainment in their eyes. Finally, Franci, who had been angry with us for a while after everyone was in love, went to town and came back totally in love with an orphan, Lucas, (who was her age) who had agreed to come with us as he was madly in love with Franci.
We were all sitting around the fireplace in our (Chet, Peter’s and my) new home. It was Christmas Eve, and we were all reunited o celebrate the birth of Jesus, but also celebrate the 12 years we had known each other, the 12 best years of all our lives (except Peter and Lucas as Peter was with us five years now and Lucas 11).
Franci was in her seventh month of pregnancy, and Lucas could not stop talking about how he was going to name the future girl. He was so excited he had bought us all a present that we would have never expected from a man who was about to have his first child. It was a picture of every one of us, Franc, Lucas, Brin, Elli, Chet, Peter (who had just turned two), and I. All the ladies, and Brin, started crying out of joy while the men had to comfort Peter who was very worried at what had happened to his Grandfather who was usually strong and fierce.
The next day Franci and Lucas were going back to Cork, while Brin and Elli continued their journey in the submarine we all loved. My little family stayed here in Dublin, living our little normal lives in our little house.
Some might say this is the end of our adventure packed lives, but I say that it is just a new beginning!

Creative Writing Activity

Have you ever thought what it would be like to be a pack of m&m's in a super market? Read on to find out! :)

M&M’s Story

I’m the last one again! People love m&m’s so much that they take almost all of us, but leave me behind. Every single da……..wait, the shop is still open. Here’s someone coming in, someone with something tugging at their trousers. It’s a child! Children love m&m’s, the sweet chocolaty taste melting in their mouth, the color’s that there tongue’s absorb to make their mouth colorful. Act natural m&m, act natural. The kid is looking at the candy, but he finds out it expires in two hours. He’s coming towards me, reaching higher and higher for me…and takes that unhealthy, show off, fat coca cola off the shelf under me. I guess tomorrow might be better, but I still can’t believe no one took me.
Now the owner’s shutting the door and switching off the lights, and as usual I’m stuck here with the healthy bars, some apples, a few cherries, three cokes, and a water bottle. There’s nothing else on the shelves since today was a busy day! Health is my best friend, but today I was more depressed than usual. The apples were flirting with the cherries, and the health family was arguing on who had more vitamins in themselves. Water, always so wise and noble, tried not to smile when the coke girls started to whisper about him.
I fell asleep quickly after I listened to a few comments about the apples from the cherries. I was awakened at 5.00 AM and was pushed to the back of the shelf while they were putting the fresh m&m’s in front of me. That’s when I saw her, with her beautiful shiny brown packet and the 25% off fluorescent yellow sticker. She smiled shyly, and was put right in front of me! This was going to be a very good day! “Hello, what’s your name?” I asked before anyone else could talk to her. “m&mia!”. What a stupid question, I thought. All girl m&m’s are called that way. She seemed to find it funny, and we talked and laughed all day! I knew she was the girl for me!!!

Hope you enjoyed my little story and that you will treat m&m's better in the future!

Reflection on Poetry

Hello, and welcome to my blog post about what I learn in Language A. Here is what we were talking about in class...
  1. What is poetry?
    1. Poetry is defined in many different ways. Here are some of the definitions by great writers; "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." This is what Robert Frost wrote. Also, ""Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal which the reader recognizes as his own." was said by Salvatore Quasimodo. I think poetry is when someone, usually the writer, expresses his feelings and emotions towards a certain thing. There are also silly poems, that don't really have a meaning, but always have something hidden deep inside!
  2. Poetic Devices?
    1. There are many poetic devices. Poetic devices are the way that you write your poem. For example, alliteration is when you repeat the first letter of the word used for usually two or three beginning's after it. You didn't understand that, well her is an example; big beautiful brown eyes. There is also metaphor, which is when you compare a thing (person usually) to something natural (nature). I am a rose is a very good example. Simile is a comparison between two objects, usually you say 'as a' or 'like a'. I am as beautiful as a rose is another good example! :) In my poem, as you will see below, I used rhythm (when the poem becomes kind of a song), rhyme (at the end of each sentence the words sound the same; bear and hair), simile (explanation above), and personification (when you describe something not human like if it were human; the trees waved gently to me)! I hope you will find them below...
  3. Explain your poem.
    1. My poem is called a month poem, and that means that I wrote a couplet for each month describing how I feel, what I see, hear, touch and smell that particular month. Below I'll attach a link to my poem where I made a power point presentation with lots of animations and sounds. The sounds are not automatic, so make sure to press the sound button because it is not automatic...
  4. Here is my poem, I hope you enjoy and make sure to look for the poetic devices.. :)

    Glogster and Reflection

This is my glogster for my book report. My book is called 'Rose' and it is by Holly Webb. This is the first book of the 4 Rose series. I think my presentation went well because someone already asked me if they could borrow the book to read it! My glog has the antagonist, protagonist, title of book, author, climax, setting, characters, plot, genre, internal conflicts and external! It seems like a lot, and it is is I were to write in paragraph from, but in this case there were few words because it is a poster. I think that made the presentation more interesting as well as the visuals, because with too much information you get bored very easily.

When I heard I had to make a book report, I felt that nothing could be worse, but when Ms.Jeftic told us it was going to be an online poster, I felt all excited again. To make the glog I started by choosing an appropriate design that would suite my book. Then I added lots of boxes that I could write in so I wouldn't have to choose one after another. Then I wrote a short paragraph of each category in word. In the end, I copied and pasted everything in the boxes. It took me about two nights to do everything. At the end, I added graphics and pictures to make my blog even more interesting!

Well, if you have time please look at it and comment if you like it and also if you think I could improve it...Thank you, Clare
